The UK Cyber Security Council has announced the appointment of Andrew Jones as the Chair of its Professional Standards Working Group. This selection is a testament to Andy’s extensive contribution to the advancement of the cyber security industry in the UK. His experience includes a two-year tenure as a service owner for various CESG (now NCSC) assured services, overseeing product assurance, Certified Consultancy, Cyber Essentials, and Assured Penetration Testing (CHECK).
The UK Cyber Security Council, an independent body funded by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), aims to facilitate professional registration for individuals and provide a platform for government agencies, public sector organizations, industry regulators, critical national infrastructure, and commercial entities to select qualified professionals to meet their specific requirements. The Council and its members are developing nationally recognized standards across all cyber security specializations, aligning with the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Strategy. These standards are instrumental in enhancing online safety for UK citizens in both personal and professional contexts.
The Professional Standards Working Group has been established to establish and uphold these professional standards. This working group will play a crucial role in leveraging sector expertise, fostering innovation and thought leadership by:
- Expanding community participation within the cyber security profession
- Shaping recommendations based on pilot programs
- Promoting awareness of cyber security specializations
- Collaborating with core council working groups
- Defining professional titles
Andy brings a wealth of experience, accumulating 38 years in Central Government, International Government, and commercial consultancy. His diverse background encompasses various delivery roles covering Cyber and Information Security, Intelligence, technical operations, crisis management, and complex project and program delivery. Throughout his career, he has developed a profound understanding of risk management.
