Many car collectors are motivated by the ambition to build a large garage filled with the most expensive and rare vehicles to have been produced.
From the ultra-rare to the cars built with supreme luxury and style in mind, car collections build their prices fast. And in this article, we’ll do a deep dive into some of the most expensive and valuable car collections all over the globe.
The Sultan of Brunei – £4.19 billion (est.)
We must begin with what is estimated to be the most expensive collection of cars in the world with Hassanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Brunei. He has an individual net worth of around £16.46 billion and has been known to splash his cash when it comes to luxury cars, spending a reported £390 million at Rolls Royce. This included one of his most famous possessions in his collection, a custom gold-plated Rolls-Royce Silver Spur II stretch limousine.
A complete list of the cars in his collection has never been made publicly available, but many have corroborated that the number of cars stands around the 7,000 mark. These include hundreds of Rolls-Royces, Ferraris, and Bentleys, but one of the most interesting things is that he has several incredibly rare cars and concept cars that were never released. A Ferrari FXX and two Ferrari Mythos solidify this as an incredibly valuable and exclusive collection.
Cristiano Ronaldo – £24.66 million (est.)
Five Ballons d’Or, three consecutive Premier League championships, an FA Cup, two La Liga titles, two Copas del Rey, five Champions League wins, and winning the UEFA European Championship with Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo has done almost everything there is to do in football. And what better way to celebrate such a career than with treating yourself to the car of your dreams. Or in the case of the superstar footballer, several cars of your dreams.
He has been snapped in many luxury cars throughout the years, from classic supercars like the Ferrari F12 TDF to luxury 4x4s like the Mercedes G-Wagon Brabus. But the most expensive in his collection goes to his Bugatti Centodieci, with carries a price tag that fetches around $10.5 million (£8.63 million when converted).
Jay Leno – £82.21 million (est.)
Comedian and late-night television host Jay Leno has been a noted petrolhead and vehicle collector throughout his career. In fact, his collection has grown so much over that years that in 1991 he purchased a 17,000 square foot property to act as his garage. This has subsequently expanded to 122,000 square feet.
With some 180 cars and 160 motorbikes in the illustrious collection, Leno’s collection features some incredibly rare and expensive vehicles. At least six of these vehicles have price tags that fetch millions each, with his most expensive vehicle being a 1934 Duesenberg Walker Coupe, valued at around $20 million, or £16.44 million.
Jay-Z – £32.88 million (est.)
Rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z isn’t a stranger to spending and investing in the things that matter to him, including previously owning a stake in NBA basketball team the Brooklyn Nets. But one of his most prolific loves is cars and he’s a noted collector.
Much like Leno’s collection, he has six cars which are valued at over a million dollars each. These include a Buggati Veyron Grand Sport and a Maybach Exelero, but the most valuable is the ultra-exclusive Rolls-Royce Boat Tail. With only three of this model in the production plan, the power couple of Jay and Beyoncé bought the car from esteemed luxury manufacturer for $28 million, or £23.02 million.
These costs are otherworldly compared to the average cost of cars for motorists up and down the country. We’re almost grateful that the only costs we need to consider are the likes of Mercedes service plans!
