A groundbreaking exhibition has launched today at a contemporary art gallery in central London. Brunswick Art Gallery is hosting a unique showcase of films and piano tracks by Fabio D’Andrea in the form of a visual album.
Fabio, a 21st-century composer, has created a set of 24 piano pieces titled “24”, with each piece representing a major or minor chromatic key of the musical scale. This collection stands out for its contemporary edge, as each piano piece is accompanied by its own music video, making it the world’s first classical video album. The films address important themes of our time, including domestic abuse (Mel B), disability (Rose Leslie), and mental health (Russell Tovey), conveying powerful messages through the concept of “masks”.
Fabio expresses his excitement about the exhibition at Brunswick Art Gallery, stating, “I am absolutely thrilled that Brunswick Art Gallery is showcasing ’24’ in this innovative way. It breaks new ground, bridging the gap between art and music in an unexpected manner. I am excited to share the ‘big screen’ experience of my work with visitors to the gallery. I am deeply passionate about reaching younger audiences and showing them that classical music can be enjoyed in various forms.”
Each music video features renowned actors and dancers who share a passion for contemporary music and the arts. Through dance, they demonstrate their exceptional acting abilities. The videos encompass a wide range of genres and feature dancers from prestigious companies such as The Royal Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, and The London Contemporary Dance School. They are choreographed by some of the UK’s finest choreographers, including those specializing in commercial street dance.
One of the early videos from the series, “The Sleeping Beauty,” directed by Fabio, has already gained recognition at numerous film festivals and received over 20 international awards, including the esteemed “Best Music Video” accolade at the LA Short Fest. Another video, “Love Should Not Hurt,” featuring Spice Girl Mel B, received unprecedented global media coverage. Notable actors such as Natalie Dormer and Ellie Bamber have also participated in Fabio’s videos.
Overall, “24” showcases visually stunning videos paired with beautiful original piano music. Fabio’s aim is to inspire younger generations and cultivate a new appreciation for contemporary dance and music. The videos explore a wide range of narratives, including social issues, cultural history, and visual celebrations of the natural world. This innovative approach to contemporary classical music aims to make it accessible to a diverse global audience.
