On 28th July 2022, Cygnet St Teilo House was delighted to announce that it had received a positive inspection report from Health Inspectorate Wales, the local regulator, with inspectors praising staff at the facility for their high standard of care.
Situated on Goshen Street, Rhymney, Cygnet St Teilo House provides a 23-bed service specialising in high dependency inpatient rehabilitation for female patients. Health Inspectorate Wales inspectors completed an unannounced inspection between 28th and 30th March. The regulator provided positive feedback, with no areas of non-compliance reported during the inspection.
In the new Health Inspectorate Wales report, inspectors concluded that the staff team at Cygnet St Teilo House was committed to providing a high standard of care to patients. Cygnet Health Care Hospital Manager Byron Mtandabari confirmed that he was delighted that the facility received such a positive inspection report from Health Inspectorate Wales, explaining that it showed how much hard work and effort the team put in to ensure the unit maintained outstanding feedback from the regulator. Mr Mtandabari took the opportunity to thank all of the staff at Cygnet St Teilo House for their hard work and dedication, praising Cygnet Health Care for its support, especially during the difficult times of COVID-19.
In compiling their report, Health Inspectorate Wales inspectors spoke with patients and their relatives, representatives and advocates, learning that staff treated patients with respect and dignity. The report highlights how patients at Cygnet St Teilo House had the opportunity to engage with staff, providing feedback on the provision of care at the facility in a variety of different ways.
The Health Inspectorate Wales report acknowledged that care plans were maintained to a good standard in line with criteria set out in the Mental Health (Wales) Measure. It also noted that there were established processes in place to manage potential risks, covering aspects such as health and safety and infection control.
In addition, the Health Inspectorate Wales report highlighted the high quality of leadership and management at the service, reflecting on the established governance arrangements in place at the facility to provide effective oversight of operational and clinical issues. The report further went on to praise staff for their commitment, which Health Inspectorate Wales observed in the multidisciplinary team. The report also acknowledged that the team worked well together to provide individualised care.
