A Worcestershire-based commercial property consultancy has been selected to oversee the property management of Worcester’s renowned Hopmarket, which boasts a substantial portfolio of mixed-use accommodation.
GJS Dillon‘s Asset Management team has assumed responsibility for managing 25 retail units and 44 affordable housing flats at the Hopmarket. Working in collaboration with the Hopmarket Charity (registered landlords on behalf of Worcester City Council) and Platform Housing Group (managers of the flats), GJS Dillon will handle various tasks including client communication, repairs, maintenance, and ensuring the community’s health and safety within the Hopmarket building.
The Hopmarket derived its name from Worcester’s Hop Fair, where surplus hops were sold to dealers from across the country in the 1890s. Originally constructed as hotel and warehouse buildings in 1900, the Grade II listed structure has since been converted into the present-day retail units and flats.
Established by a Parliamentary Act in 1730, the Hopmarket Charity has the responsibility of maintaining the Hopmarket and supporting individuals in need. The current Trustees, two-thirds of whom must be Worcester City Council members, collaborate to lease the retail units to a diverse range of entrepreneurial traders and encourage increased footfall within the market. Any surplus funds generated from the lettings are utilized for grants that support local charitable causes aiding those in need.
Emily Bullock, GJS Dillon’s Associate Director of Asset Management, expressed her delight in taking on this new assignment. Recognizing the building’s architectural beauty and the intriguing mix of tenants, she looks forward to working with them to foster a positive community atmosphere.
Bill Simpson, Chairman of the Hopmarket Charity, expressed satisfaction with Emily and her team’s work thus far, emphasizing their pivotal role in preserving the vibrant spirit of the Hopmarket as a community hub in the heart of Worcester.
