2. Zermatt, Switzerland
Zermatt is surrounded by the Alp’s tallest peaks, this ski resort is huge, with 233 miles of runs within four big ski areas. Some of these skiing areas have an altitude of over 10,000 feet, meaning that you can find snow here long past the winter season. You will find this ski resort and village at the bottom of Matterhorn, which is Switzerland’s most famous mountain. This is a very modern ski resort, with lots of swanky apres-ski touches. This is a car-free village, where the mode of transport is a horse-drawn sleigh. Don’t forget to stop for a burger and a glass of champagne on the way down whilst you’re skiing.
3. Verbier, Switzerland
This is considered the Apl’s most glamorous resort, with high-profile celebrities in their luxury chalets. Richard Branson has opened the first VIP club in the Alps, called The Lodge and CoCo Club. There is a mix of novice and expert pistes, with nearly 14 miles of nordic trails, this ski resort attracts the more sporty and youthful clientele. You are now able to sneak in a few more runs with their new and improved Pasay chairlift, which ascends the most picturesque slopes in Verbier.
4. Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy
After the winter Olympics in 1956, this historic town then grew into a must visit ski destination in Italy, it is now hosting the games again in 2026. This town isn’t too remote as it is just two hours from Venice, although the surrounding dolomites sometimes makes it feel otherwise. This is one of the less flashy ski resorts, but it still attracts the likes of George Clooney. Cortina allows skiers to be able to ride nearly 750 miles of slopes, which has created 83 runs for everyone at the resort.
5. Val d’Isère, France
Although some may not enjoy the crowds and the prices at this mega-resort, this ski resort is a paradise for any experienced skiers. This ski resort provides high-quality snow slope, which also has a backup artificial snowmaking machine if needed. These slopes are easily linked to other tigines, making it one of France’s biggest ski resorts. If your looking for some excellent dining and are down for a party, then this resort has it all. There are two different dining options available, with an open kitchen concept being brought to the foot of the slopes.
