OX Delivers, a UK-based e-mobility start-up focused on revolutionizing the transport of goods in the Global South, has been chosen as a 2024 Solver team by the prestigious MIT Solve. The company was invited to pitch at the Solve Challenge Finals in New York City, held during the United Nations General Assembly and Climate Week, in front of an audience of 200+ philanthropists, global leaders, and investors.
As part of the selection, OX Delivers received $10,000 from MIT Solve and an additional $25,000 from General Motors to further scale its impact. The team will also participate in a nine-month support program through MIT Solve, gaining access to expert resources, funding opportunities, and mentorship.
Selected from over 2,200 applicants across 130 countries, OX Delivers joins a class of Solver teams where 80% are women-led, spanning 13 countries.
“We’re thrilled to be recognized by MIT Solve and chosen from such a strong international applicant pool. This will provide us with vital support and expertise as we scale our operations,” said Natalie Dowsett, Co-Founder of OX Delivers. “We look forward to sharing our mission to transform transport in the Global South with the MIT Solve community.”
OX Delivers is already making a significant impact in Rwanda, offering reliable, affordable transport-as-a-service, and transforming the livelihoods of thousands. For less than $1, customers can transport a sack of goods to market across challenging, poor-quality roads. This service enables farmers and traders to access larger, more profitable markets, spurring economic growth in local communities.
With its unique pay-per-use model, customers are charged based on the space they use, calculated on a kilogram-per-kilometre basis. The service is accessible through an app or toll-free number, and OX Delivers now supports over 4,000 customers, with 80% of orders coming from repeat clients.
The OX Truck, originally designed by Professor Gordon Murray in 2016 as the world’s first flat-pack truck, has evolved into the first purpose-designed electric vehicle for the Global South. It’s ten times cheaper to operate than traditional alternatives and promises to revolutionize transport across the region.
With its next-generation electric truck, OX Delivers plans to expand its impact throughout East Africa and beyond, targeting the three billion people in developing countries who currently lack access to affordable, sustainable transport solutions.
